Unforgettable Summer in Italy: Exploring Business Practices and Culture
How Our Students Immersed Themselves in Italy’s Business World
This summer, our students embarked on an unforgettable adventure that combined education with cultural exploration in Italy. They participated in immersive classes, visited iconic cities, and gained invaluable insights into Italian business culture. Our summer program was designed for students eager to learn about the distinct business practices of two of Italy’s most captivating regions while soaking in the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery these cities offer.
Understanding Regional Business Practices
Our students kicked off their journey in Siracusa, Sicily, where they spent the first half of their stay. Sicily, renowned for its historical significance and distinct southern Italian culture, served as the ideal starting point. Here, they delved into the unique business practices of southern Italy, guided by local experts who shared firsthand experience and knowledge.
Next, the adventure continued in Florence, where they explored how business practices differ in the north, gaining a well-rounded perspective on the economic landscape of Italy. A local instructor from Florence provided deep insights into the northern business ethos, rounding out their comparative study.
But it wasn’t just about understanding business. A key focus of our program was developing essential soft skills. Recognizing the importance of cultural sensitivities, effective communication, and interpersonal skills in today’s globalized business environment, our program was tailored to help students build these competencies. Italy’s multicultural setting offered the perfect backdrop for students to experience and appreciate diversity in business practices. By engaging with local experts and participating in field activities, they not only learned about business but also immersed themselves in the local culture.
A Real-Life Business Study Case
Our students had the incredible opportunity to visit Beste, a prestigious corporation known for its high-quality and sustainable manufacturing practices in Sicily. Beste has earned immense respect within the community for its commitment to environmental consciousness and sustainability, launching multiple labels and collections that emphasize these values.
During their visit, students learned about Beste’s partnership with Humao, a leading fashion industry giant in Anqing, Asia. This collaboration focuses on expanding production while maintaining the integrity of “Made in Italy” products, combining Italian craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. The experience offered our students a first-hand look at how global partnerships can enhance business growth while preserving cultural heritage and quality.
Business Courses Combined with Cultural Tours
Our students didn’t just learn about business—they lived it. There’s no better way to understand a place than through its culture, and that’s exactly what they did. They blended education with adventure, exploring the baroque cities of Noto and Modica to immerse themselves in Sicily’s rich heritage. These explorations were not just about sightseeing; they provided valuable insights into family-run businesses and local industries, giving students a deeper understanding of regional commerce.
We organized interactive field trips to a diverse range of businesses, from charming family enterprises in Noto to cutting-edge tech corporations. These hands-on experiences allowed our students to understand and analyze the various facets of business operations in detail. By diving into this Italian experience, they developed crucial business skills such as problem-solving, negotiation, team dynamics, and leadership.
